The Team: PTI Inspection Division
This position is as a team member of PTI’s Inspection Division, which is responsible for designing and developing the most sophisticated non-destructive container closure system inspection technologies in the world.
The Role: Director of Research, Development and Engineering
PTI is seeking a driven, experienced technical director of PTI’s Research, Engineering and Development (RED) Team.
The role would have leadership and oversight of the RED team for a $20MM equipment manufacturing operation. PTI is a leading innovator in physical test and measurement for high risk packaging applications. PTI has independently developed six core technologies providing practical, sensitive and reliable leak detection for sterile barrier packaging. The RED team consists of four operational sub-teams: controls, software, mechanical and research. Having some foundational knowledge of one or multiple disciplines within this space is needed to effectively lead this team.
The role involves articulating technology strategy with the greater leadership team and transposing that strategy into action. The engineering department is responsible to execute on short-term and long-term research engineering projects as well as paid custom engineering projects. New product development involves managing concepts and technologies in various stages of development to final product release-to-manufacturing. The role has mechanical, controls, software and research engineering teams reporting into it. The role will be responsible for team development and operating frameworks to achieve objectives. While this role may be technical in nature, significant value is generated in this position by providing strong leadership, mentorship and project management capabilities.
Performance will be measured against new product development, delivery of custom solutions, engineering quality, continuous improvement, related product margin, and overall operational performance.
Responsibilities within oversight of the role:

- General performance of R&D against critical project deliverables
Direct responsibilities:
- Leadership to research, engineering and development team
- Develop a strategic technology roadmap together with the senior leadership team
- Establishing metrics and performance measurement systems
- Creating action plans and frameworks to continuously improve team performance and output
- Human resource management for research, engineering and development operations
